Why join this group?

Why this group?
This group is going nine years. We were the first group generally who caters for bikers who live near or on the north side of Dublin. Most of our ride outs focus on north Co. Dublin and north/west surrounding counties, although we do sometimes venture south. The emphasis is to explore the most scenic b-roads and sometimes green lanes, as part of the mix, avoiding motorways and busy roads, where possible. We endeavour to arrange ride outs one or two Sundays per month, for a few hours when the weather is reasonably dry. We generally keep to speed limits and are not speed merchants. We also have a few weekends or longer trips away during the year to locations in the UK and Ireland primarily.

The other reason I started this group, was that I found that one or two of the groups that I was in drove too fast, to the point of being dangerous. While I like a turn of speed now and then on the right roads in the right situation, we generally drive at an easy pace to enjoy the countryside and to stay safe. This is not a race bike meet.

This group is very down to earth and everybody is treated equally. New members are very welcome.

You don't need a new bike to feel good about being in this group. Older and classic bikes are very welcome.

We also do not leave anybody behind if they have a problem. We generally wait for people who are running behind and will turn back to check on people to see if they are stuck or stranded for mechanical or other reason. For longer spins, we all join a WhatsApp post so that we can communicate with each other in real time.

Most of our rides involve stopping for coffee or lunch and having a good chat and banter. Many of the current and former members who met through this group have become long-term friends.

This group is open to all kinds of people, from all walks of life, from any background, any age? Having said that, if you are a business owner or entrepreneur, then you are also very welcome in this group because I have run my own businesses for over 25 years and I'm very interested in meeting business owners.

Why do you charge a small membership fee?

A very modest membership fee applies, to cover meetup app fees and website costs etc and to encourage the membership of people who are serious about engaging regularly with the group. You also get a few Free perks, including free branded stickers to put on your bike and other branded items when available.

We had nearly 200 members on the meetup app, but they we're not engaging members for the most part, mostly dreamers who never showed up for ride outs. Therefore, in order to stop that happening and only encouraging members who will participate in the ride outs and with the group socially, we decided to charge a very small nominal fee. It is my experience, The people who have some skin in the game are more serious about being part of it.

Can members lead ride outs and plan trips?

Yes. Members who want to lead either a Sunday spin or a weekend away spin is welcome to do so. They just need to let myself or Dave know when they want to do it and then we will post it on the group meet up page and website. Ideally they should plan out the route on Google Maps and make that available for people who are participating in the ride out.

if you want to be an organiser, in that you will regularly organise ride outs and trips, Wil or Dave know.

Can I bring a friend on the Sunday ride outs?

Yes you can! However, if they are going to be a regular feature, then they should join the group through the Meetup app.

Do you partake in the photo rally locations?

To date, as main organisor of this group, I have no particular interest in doing the photo rally, however one or two guys in this group do follow it and plan routes around it. If there is sufficient interest with members to do it, we will certainly accommodate those people on planning a ride out. Some of our longer and away trips often pass close by a number of the photo rally points and could be included if there was sufficient interest

note; there are one or two other Dublin groups including the photo rally group itself who specifically plan their trips around it.

Can I rent a bike if I don't have one?

Yes you can! You can rent a bike from any local rental company e.g. Celtic Riders directly. We can help arrange that for you in advance.  Or it may be the case that one of our members can rent one of their bikes and gear to you. However, you would need to have a current licence and ensure that the loan bike is properly insured in your name, while you are using it.

Do you organise guided motorbike tours in Ireland?

Yes, we can, particularly if you're coming from the UK or abroad and are not familiar with the Irish countryside or best roads and historical locations et cetera. We can plan a specific route for you that you can follow on Google Maps or we can arrange a guide to bring you in person.

What about accommodation on overnight trips?

It is true that many riders prefer to go camping and to bring their own camping gear. Group members are responsible to book your their camp sites or other accommodation etc well in advance of an away trip.

however, we can arrange and book accommodation for guided tours for visiting groups that use our guided tour service.

What about Insurance?

Currently, we don't provide motorcycle riders insurance, we can only provide a tour guide and the route - but we may do in the future.
However, Carol Nash or one of the local motorcycle rental companies should be able to arrange short-term  insurance for you.

It must be stated that NDMM.net, nor it's members or associates are not responsible for providing either rider insurance, public liability insurance or other insurance, in any given situation.
Any rider that is a part of this group or visiting, is responsible for having their own insurance cover and a legal licence.
